Dreamlike, nostalgic, or subtly uncanny – MOONSTRUCK evokes a state oscillating between enchantment and disorientation. Whether in painting, expansive installations, or photographic worlds, all seven artistic positions share an interest in emotional in-between states, personal memory spaces, and a playful defiance of convention. With just the right touch, the works by Amrita Dhillon, Ferdinand Dölberg, Jonathan Joosten, Sarah Neumann, Coco Schütte, Zandile Tshabalala, and Jenna Westra break from the norm, flicker, flirt, and call forth memory.
Nothing is fixed, nothing remains stable. In Coco Schütte’s work, there is always an underlying tilt: a deviation, a subtle resistance, a gesture of joyful nonconformity. She throws systems off balance—not through confrontation, but through subtle shifts. The rupture in the rules remains implied, yet felt. At times casually, at times deliberately staged, her collisions of language, objects, and bodies question authority, gender, and the performance of power—with analytical precision, never didactically. Her tools are disruption, re-coding, and playful disturbance, carried by a fine sense of rebellion that runs through her entire practice. A toppled barstool becomes a pedestal for soft fabric; meanings begin to slip. Spatial situations emerge in which roles begin to wobble and loss of control becomes a productive experience. What becomes visible is not an antithesis to existing order, but a controlled unravelling—a deliberate crossing of boundaries that opens space for new forms of speaking, showing, and thinking.
